The 2022 Mercedes-Benz AMG GT53 has 6 recalls, the most serious being three separate fire risks tied to electrical wiring: a loose 48-volt ground cable that can overheat, and a transmission wiring harness that can short-circuit.
On the wiring issues, prior repair attempts on the transmission harness did not fully resolve the problem, and the harness can also be misrouted in a way that exposes the connector to corrosion and short-circuit. Both paths lead to the same fire risk. The fuel system also has a concern: the fuel pump can shut down without warning, cutting drive power and raising the risk of a crash. These two fuel pump filings cover the same underlying defect. Rounding out the list, vehicles equipped with a heated leather steering wheel may have a hands-off detection system that stops working, which disables the DISTRONIC driver assistance features, including the alerts that prompt the driver to take the wheel and the automatic emergency stop function that can contact first responders.
