The 2023 Mercedes-Benz AMG GT53 has 5 recalls, the most serious being two separate fire risks: a transmission wiring harness that can short-circuit and a 48-volt ground cable in the engine compartment that can overheat.
The wiring harness concern traces back to prior recall repairs that may not have been completed correctly, leaving connections that can arc and ignite. The ground cable issue is separate: an insufficiently tightened connection can build up heat on its own and reach temperatures that start a fire. There are also two recalls covering the fuel pump, which can shut down without warning while driving, cutting power to the engine and leaving the vehicle unable to accelerate or maintain speed in traffic. Finally, a software error in the exit warning system can prevent the car from alerting occupants to vehicles approaching from behind when opening a door, removing a layer of protection against being struck while exiting.
