The 2015 Mercedes-Benz B Class has two recalls, both affecting occupant protection: the passenger seat sensor may misread who is sitting in the front seat, either leaving the airbag off when an adult is present or keeping it active when a child seat is installed. The second recall affects vehicles with the Easy-Vario rear seat option, where screws that bolt the rear seat to the body may be missing on one side. In a crash, the seat can lift away from the floor, which prevents the rear seatbelts from anchoring properly and raises the risk of injury to rear passengers.

Defect

On certain vehicles, the occupant classification system (OCS) may not work properly. In some cases, this could cause the airbag system to turn off the passenger-front airbag, even if an adult is seated in the front passenger seat. Alternatively, the airbag may not be turned off when a child seat is installed in the front passenger seat.

Safety Risk

An airbag that deploys in front of a child seat, or an airbag that doesn't properly deploy in front of a passenger could increase the risk of injury in a crash.

Remedy

Mercedes-Benz will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to replace the front passenger seat cushion.
