The 2016 Mercedes-Benz GL350 has 4 recalls, the most serious involving a front suspension oil leak that can ignite if it contacts a heat source, raising the risk of a vehicle fire.
The passenger airbag system carries its own concern: a faulty passenger seat occupant classification sensor may not correctly detect an adult in the front passenger seat, causing the airbag to suppress rather than deploy in a crash and leaving that occupant without full restraint protection. On the steering side, water can get into the electric power steering control unit and cause the power assist to cut out without warning, forcing the driver to manage significantly heavier steering effort and raising the risk of losing control. Finally, a software fault in the emergency call system can cause the unit to report an incorrect date and time, which in turn may cause it to transmit a wrong vehicle location during an emergency, potentially delaying first responders from reaching the vehicle.
