The 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLE Class has 6 recalls, the most serious being loose upper control arm connections that can affect steering and directional control, raising the risk of a crash.
Two recalls cover steering: beyond the control arm issue, moisture can enter the electric power steering control unit through an improperly sealed connector, causing the steering assist to cut out unexpectedly. On the engine side, a software issue in the engine control unit can cause the engine to shut off just before the vehicle comes to a complete stop, which may be mistaken for a normal ECO stop-start event rather than an unintended shutdown. This affects AMG models in particular, though a related engine control unit concern applies more broadly as well. There is also a windshield bonding concern, where the adhesive securing the windshield may not meet specification, which can compromise how well it holds in a frontal collision. Finally, some vehicles have low-beam headlamps that were not adjusted to the correct angle at the factory, which can reduce road illumination or cause glare for oncoming drivers.
