The 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe has 3 recalls, the most serious involving rear drive shaft bolts that may not have been tightened to specification and can loosen over time, allowing the drive shaft to separate from the transmission and causing sudden loss of drive power.

On the occupant safety side, the rear head restraints may not stay locked in the upright position in very cold temperatures (below -20°C), which means they can drop during a crash and reduce protection for rear seat occupants. There is also a structural concern where excess insulation material may extend into the lower windshield area, which can interfere with occupant protection in a frontal collision.
