The 2011 Mercedes-Benz GLK350 has 4 recalls, all involving frontal airbag inflators on both the driver and passenger sides that can rupture and send metal fragments into the cabin, with a risk of serious injury or death.

All four recalls trace back to the same underlying defect in the Takata airbag inflators. Both the driver-side and passenger-side frontal airbags are affected. When one of these inflators fires in a crash, internal pressure can cause it to burst apart rather than inflate the bag cleanly, throwing sharp metal fragments toward the driver, front passenger, or anyone else in the vehicle. The geography-based filing structure reflects the fact that high heat and humidity accelerate the degradation of the inflator propellant, so vehicles registered in states like Florida, Hawaii, and other warm, humid climates were prioritized in earlier waves of the recall campaign. Prior repair attempts did not fully resolve the issue for all vehicles, which is why multiple filings exist covering overlapping model years and trims.
