The 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLS 450 has 3 recalls, the most serious involving a 48-volt ground connection under the passenger seat that can overheat and start a fire.
The ground connection may not be properly secured, allowing heat to build at that point in the wiring until it reaches temperatures that can ignite surrounding materials. On the safety systems side, two recalls affect the vehicle's automatic emergency call feature. In one, the eCall system can become disabled entirely, meaning that after a crash, the vehicle cannot connect to an emergency services center and responders may be delayed. In the other, the system may function but transmit the wrong location to emergency services, sending responders to an incorrect address while occupants wait at the actual crash site. Both failures affect the same real-world outcome: emergency help taking longer to arrive when it matters most.
