The 2020 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter has 3 recalls, the most serious being brake hoses that may have been damaged during production and can leak fluid over time, softening the pedal and extending stopping distances.
The brake hose defect may be signaled by a low brake fluid warning light or a pedal that feels mushy underfoot, and in a hard braking situation the reduced pressure can destabilize the vehicle. On the structural side, two recalls address crash protection concerns. Front door hinge screws on some vehicles may not have been tightened to specification, meaning the hinges may not hold the door in the intended position during a collision, raising the risk of injury to occupants. There is also a concern with the cargo partition wall: on a small number of vehicles it may not be properly secured to the body, and in a crash it can shift or break free entirely, sending cargo forward into the cabin.
