The 2007 MINI Cooper S has 4 recalls, all three most serious ones involving fire risk: an auxiliary water pump that can overheat after the engine is switched off, an electrical short-circuit in the wiring harness, and a turbocharger circuit board that can overheat.
The auxiliary water pump, which keeps the turbocharger cool after shutdown, can fail and catch fire while the car is parked. The electrical system recalls involve wiring that can short and ignite, with one affecting vehicles registered in certain cold-weather and northern states where road conditions may contribute to wiring wear. The turbocharger circuit board can also overheat and pose a fire risk under the hood. The fourth recall is lower in severity: the centrally-located tailpipe extension protrudes slightly past the rear bumper, and if someone brushes against it while the exhaust is hot, it can cause a burn.
