The 2017 MINI Cooper S has 3 recalls, the most serious involving a seat-mounted airbag that may not deploy in a crash and a driver's seatbelt retractor that may not lock properly under hard braking.
The airbag recall affects the inflator initiator, which can fail to ignite and leave the seat-mounted airbag inactive when it is needed most. The seatbelt issue involves the driver's emergency locking retractor, which may not engage if the driver is leaning forward at the moment heavy braking occurs, reducing the restraint the belt provides in a crash. Note that the brake light recall only affects Clubman body styles: when the turn signal is active while braking, the inner bumper-mounted brake light can go dark, making it harder for drivers behind to read the vehicle's intentions.
