The 2015 MINI Cooper S has 5 recalls, the most serious being a transmission software issue that can allow the driver to exit the vehicle while it is not in Park, leaving it free to roll away.
Several recalls involve airbag and occupant safety systems. The passenger seat sensor that determines whether the front passenger is an adult or child can misread the occupant, causing the airbag to activate or deactivate incorrectly in a crash. The front passenger airbag may also fail to deploy in a low-speed collision, reducing protection for that occupant. On the structural side, a defect in the front seat's backrest adjustment mechanism can allow the seatback to shift out of position in a severe impact, and certain two-door models do not meet side impact protection requirements for rear seat passengers, raising the risk of injury in a side collision.
