The 2002 Mitsubishi Montero has 3 recalls, the most serious being a fuel leak risk where a faulty fuel tank leveling valve can allow fuel to spill onto the ground and ignite if an ignition source is present. This situation is most likely when the tank is full and the vehicle is parked nose-up on a slope in warm conditions, causing the fuel to expand beyond what the valve can contain. The remaining recall involves the brake booster accumulator, which can lose its internal nitrogen gas pressure over time. When that happens, the brakes may produce an unusual noise from the left side of the dashboard and the power assist may be slow to engage on the first brake application after starting the vehicle.
