The 2009 RAM 1500 has 4 recalls, with two related issues that can allow a fuel tank strap to corrode and detach, dropping the tank to the ground and causing a fuel leak that raises the risk of fire.
The fuel tank strap recalls affect vehicles registered in certain northeastern, midwestern, and mid-Atlantic states, where road salt corrosion can weaken the frame bracket holding the front strap in place. If the tank drops far enough to contact the ground, a fuel leak can occur during normal driving or in a crash. The other two recalls both involve the brake transmission shift interlock on vehicles with a column-mounted gear shifter. This interlock is meant to prevent shifting out of park without pressing the brake pedal or having the key in the ignition, and if it stops working, the transmission can be shifted freely, raising the risk of the vehicle rolling away unexpectedly.
