The 2007 RAM 3500 has two recalls, both centered on the 220-amp alternator, which can fail suddenly or develop an internal short that raises the risk of an engine compartment fire or an unexpected stall.
The alternator is most prone to failure under heavy electrical load and in hot conditions, where repeated cycling at its rated capacity can cause it to short circuit. A stall without warning leaves the driver without power steering or power brakes while the vehicle is in motion, and a fire risk in the engine compartment can develop independently of whether the vehicle stalls first.
