Summary
The 2019 RAM 3500 has 10 recalls, the most serious involving multiple fire and engine failure risks tied to the 6.7L diesel engine, including sudden power loss, fuel leaks into the engine compartment, and connecting rod failure that can puncture the engine block and ignite spilled oil.
Several of these engine concerns overlap: the high-pressure fuel pump can fail and cut power without warning, fuel lines can leak into the engine bay, and on High Output engine models, connecting rod bearings can run dry during warm-up and ultimately breach the block. A separate software issue on High Output models means the engine may not alert the driver to low oil, allowing damage to progress silently toward the same outcome. There is also a curtain airbag concern affecting both sides of the cabin, where the inflator can rupture and send metal fragments toward occupants in a crash.
On the brake side, front caliper seals can swell due to contaminated assembly fluid, causing the brakes to drag, overheat, and lose stopping power. Two recalls address this same brake seal issue. The tailgate can unlatch on its own while driving, either from a latch failure or misaligned strikers, allowing unsecured cargo to fall into traffic. Finally, on trucks with a column shifter, the gear position display shows only the selected gear rather than the full shift pattern, which can cause confusion during shifting.
