The 1981 Renault 18 has 4 recalls, the most serious being multiple fuel system defects that can allow gasoline to leak near both the engine and fuel tank, creating a fire risk.
Two of those fuel concerns involve connections or lines that can weep fuel in areas exposed to heat. A third fuel system recall covers a separate problem: contamination or restriction in the fuel supply path that can starve the engine and cause it to shut off without warning while driving, leaving the vehicle without power at speed. On the electrical side, some wiring in the engine compartment may not be properly routed or held in place, which can allow wires to contact nearby components, cause circuit malfunctions throughout the vehicle's electrical system, and in some cases lead to an electrical fire.
