All three issues affect what the driver sees when reversing. In one case, the rearview camera retains whatever brightness and contrast settings were last used rather than returning to defaults when the system powers on. If a previous driver had set brightness near its lowest and contrast near its highest, the resulting image can be too dark or washed out to read clearly. A separate issue causes the backup camera feed to fail to appear on screen at all when the vehicle is put in reverse, leaving the driver with no camera image to rely on. The third problem is mechanical: the central information display screen may not rise fully or stop at the correct angle, physically cutting off part of the camera image so the driver sees only a portion of the area behind the vehicle. Taken together, the three recalls describe a situation where any one of several different failures can leave the driver with degraded or absent rear visibility while backing up.
