Summary
The 1994 SAAB 900 has 7 recalls, the most serious being a throttle defect on four-cylinder models where corroded bushings can cause the throttle to stick open after the accelerator pedal is released, leaving the driver unable to reduce engine power.
Three recalls involve the front seats. The driver's seat height adjuster can develop fatigue cracks around its attachment points and collapse rearward in a rear-end collision. On 3-door and 5-door models, the seat back recliner mechanism may be missing one or more welds to the seat frame, which can also cause the seat back to fold rearward in a rear impact. On vehicles with manually adjusted front seats, weak trigger springs on the fore-and-aft adjustment lever may not lock the seat rails securely, allowing the seat to shift in a collision. On the braking side, front brake discs and pads can become coated with slush, salt, or water in winter or wet conditions, causing a brief delay before braking takes full effect and extending stopping distances. Manual transmission models have a separate concern where the gearshift can appear to be in reverse but actually leave the transmission in neutral, or can be knocked out of reverse accidentally, raising the risk of an unintended rollaway. There is also a compliance recall related to headlamp aiming instructions that were omitted from the owner's manual.
