The 2012 Toyota Avalon has 4 recalls, the most serious being a subwoofer in the trunk that can develop an electrical short, overheat, and start a fire, and a clogged air conditioning drain hose that allows water to pool and short-circuit the system, disabling the airbags or causing them to deploy without warning.
The remaining two recalls describe the same underlying issue and should be treated as one: if the driver or front passenger seat belt buckle was replaced during a prior repair, the replacement part may incorrectly signal to the airbag system that the belt is always fastened. In a crash, the airbags may not deploy as intended, reducing protection for the occupant.
