The 2010 Toyota Corolla Matrix has 5 recalls, the most serious being a passenger-side airbag inflator that can explode and send metal fragments into the cabin, causing serious injury or death.
All four airbag recalls point to the same underlying defect in the Takata passenger-side inflator. Prior repair campaigns did not fully resolve the issue, which is why multiple filings exist. The risk is the same across all of them: the inflator can rupture or explode, turning the airbag housing into a source of metal shrapnel directed at the front passenger. Note that some of these filings apply specifically to vehicles sold or registered in high-humidity states and territories, so not every Corolla Matrix is covered by every filing. The fifth recall covers the power window master switch, which can trap moisture and debris inside the switch assembly, leading to a short circuit that overheats and melts the switch.
