The 2007 Toyota RAV4 has 5 recalls, with the most serious being a rear suspension defect where a loose tie rod can break and cause sudden loss of steering control, raising the risk of a crash.
Several other safety concerns affect occupants directly. The curtain airbags may not deploy in a rollover because a faulty sensor in the airbag assembly can disable the roll detection system entirely, leaving the airbag warning light on with no curtain protection. In a front-end collision, the rear outboard seat belts can be cut by the seat cushion frame, leaving those passengers without proper restraint. On vehicles equipped with aftermarket heated seats, a damaged copper heating element can short circuit and start a fire. There is also a power window switch concern: without adequate lubrication, moisture and debris can cause the switch to short circuit, overheat, and melt.
