The 2006 Toyota Yaris has 8 recalls, the most serious being a Takata airbag inflator that can rupture and send metal fragments into the cabin, posing a risk of serious injury or death.
Two recalls cover the front seatbelt pretensioners: when the pretensioners fire in a frontal crash, they can ignite nearby sound-insulating material inside the vehicle, creating a post-collision fire risk. The driver's side power window master switch is also covered by a recall, as the switch can develop an internal short circuit, overheat, and melt if the contacts lose lubrication and accumulate debris. On the seating side, the front seat rail springs on both the driver and passenger seats can break, causing the seat to feel locked when it is not; in a crash, the seat can slide freely and increase occupant injury risk. There is also a recall tied to an aftermarket cruise control unit that Toyota Canada sold through its dealership network for certain model years.
