These airbag recalls have been filed in several waves and cover vehicles across a wide range of climates, with some filings specifically targeting cars sold or ever registered in high-humidity states and territories such as Florida, Hawaii, Louisiana, and Texas, where moisture accelerates inflator degradation. Regardless of geography, the core danger is the same: the passenger-side airbag inflator can rupture explosively during deployment rather than cushioning occupants as intended.
On the electrical side, the power window master switch can develop a short circuit when moisture and debris reach the sliding contacts inside the switch housing. Without adequate lubrication protecting those contacts, the switch can overheat and melt, raising the risk of a fire starting in the door panel.
There is also a seat rail concern specific to the driver's seat and the front passenger seat on three-door models. The springs that hold the seat tracks locked in position can break, allowing a seat to slide freely. In a crash, a seat that is not locked in place can shift forward or backward, reducing the protection the seatbelt and headrest are designed to provide.
