The 2008 Volvo VHD has 4 recalls, the most serious involving ball joint seals on the steering drag link that can corrode and wear through, leading to a complete loss of steering control.
The brakes are also affected: on trucks equipped with an air release fifth wheel, an inversion valve on the frame can be oriented so that contaminants enter through the exhaust port, causing the valve to corrode and reducing braking performance. On trucks fitted with snow plow lamp preparation kits, the snow plow headlights can be switched on independently of the marker and tail lamps, leaving the sides and rear of the vehicle dark and reducing how visible it is to other drivers. There is also a certification label recall: the tire information printed on the door jamb label may be incorrect, which can lead to the vehicle being loaded beyond its safe capacity.
