The 2010 Volvo VHD has 4 recalls, the most serious involving front ball joints that can corrode and wear to the point of failure, causing complete loss of steering control.
On the braking side, trucks equipped with an air release fifth wheel have an inversion valve that may be positioned so that contaminants enter through the exhaust port, causing corrosion that can degrade brake performance. There is also a lighting concern on vehicles fitted with snow plow lamp preparation kits: the snow plow headlights can be switched on independently of the marker and tail lamps, leaving the truck largely invisible to other drivers while the operator may not realize the rear and side lights are dark. Finally, some vehicles carry a certification label with incorrect tire information, which can lead to overloading the truck.
