The 2009 Volvo VHD has 4 recalls, the most serious involving front ball joints that can corrode and wear through over time, eventually causing complete loss of steering control.
On the braking side, trucks equipped with an air release fifth wheel have an inversion valve that can be oriented so contaminants enter through the exhaust port, corroding the valve and degrading braking performance. On trucks fitted with snow plow lamp preparation kits, the snow plow headlights can be switched on independently of the marker and tail lamps, leaving the sides and rear of the truck dark and reducing its visibility to other drivers. There is also a certification label recall: the tire information printed on the label may be incorrect, which can lead to the truck being loaded beyond its actual capacity.
