The 2025 Volvo VHD has 5 recalls, the most serious being three separate steering failures: a drag link ball stud that can break and cause sudden loss of steering, a tie rod ball stud that can separate and become a road hazard, and a steering gear valve plug that can come loose and cut power steering assist without warning.
Wheel safety is also a concern, as lug nuts on certain trucks may not be properly tightened and can allow a wheel to detach while driving. On the electronics side, electrical interference can cause the Bendix EC80 control unit to misprocess commands or stop working entirely, which can disable or reduce the effectiveness of anti-lock brakes, traction control, electronic stability control, active cruise control, and the collision mitigation system all at once.
