The 2024 Volvo VHD has 8 recalls, the most serious involving two steering defects where loose or improperly tightened fasteners can cause the steering linkage or steering gear to fail, resulting in a total loss of vehicle control.
On the occupant safety side, the passenger bench seat may not be adequately bolted to the floor and can shift during a crash, and on trucks equipped with RollTek driver seats, a missing circuit can prevent the side curtain airbag from deploying in a crash. There is also an electronics recall covering trucks with Bendix EC80 control units, where electrical interference can cause the unit to malfunction and cut functionality to anti-lock brakes, traction control, electronic stability control, and the collision mitigation system. Hub covers on certain trucks do not fit the hub properly and can detach at speed, creating a road hazard. Windshield wiper motors on some trucks have gears that wear prematurely, causing the wipers to stop working and reducing visibility in wet conditions. Some trucks with Continental front tires carry an incorrect weight rating on the certification label, which can lead to the front axle being overloaded.
