The 2022 Volvo VHD has 5 recalls, the most serious of which cover a passenger bench seat that may not be adequately anchored to the floor and a control unit fault that can disable anti-lock brakes, traction control, stability control, and collision mitigation systems.
On the occupant safety side, trucks equipped with RollTek driver seats have a missing circuit that prevents the side curtain airbag from deploying in a crash. The bench seat issue is separate: its attachment points can fail during a crash, allowing the seat to shift and raising the risk of injury. There are also two chassis and visibility concerns: hubcap compression springs can push the hubcap off the wheel and onto the road, creating a hazard for other traffic, and windshield wiper motor gears can wear out prematurely and cause the wipers to stop working, reducing the driver's forward visibility in wet conditions.
