The 2021 Volvo VHD has 6 recalls, the most serious involving steering and brake failures: a steering knuckle can separate from the axle, a brake air line can release suddenly causing the park brakes to apply without warning, and a brake pedal can break free and become inoperable.
The passenger-side bench seat may not be adequately secured to the floor and can shift in a crash, raising the risk of injury to any occupant in that seat. On the electronics side, certain trucks equipped with a Bendix EC80 control unit can experience electrical interference that causes the unit to malfunction or stop working entirely, which can reduce or cut out traction control, anti-lock brakes, electronic stability control, adaptive cruise, and collision mitigation. A hubcap compression spring can also fail and send the hubcap onto the road, creating a hazard for surrounding traffic.
