The 2020 Volvo VHD has 5 recalls, the most serious involving a brake pedal that can break away from its mounting and become inoperable, removing the driver's ability to apply the brakes.
On the electrical side, a blown fuse in the transmission circuit can prevent the transmission from shifting, and a separate software issue in the Bendix electronic control unit can cause it to misprocess commands or stop responding entirely, potentially disabling anti-lock brakes, traction control, electronic stability control, and the collision mitigation system all at once. There is also a transmission auxiliary air tank concern: the straps securing the tank can deform and release their fasteners, dropping the tank onto the road and creating a hazard for other vehicles. Rounding out the recalls, the passenger-side bench seat may not be adequately secured to the floor and can shift in a crash, compromising the occupant's restraint.
