The 2019 Volvo VHD has 6 recalls, the most serious involving certain Bridgestone wide-base tires whose sidewall steel cords may be exposed, leading to rapid air loss and raising the risk of a crash.
Two other recalls affect the drivetrain. A fuse in the transmission circuit can blow and leave the transmission unable to shift. A separate issue involves the straps securing the transmission auxiliary air tank: over-tightened t-bolt clasps can deform the strap anchor point, allowing the tank to drop onto the road and become a hazard for other vehicles. On the occupant safety side, the passenger bench seat may not be adequately fastened to the floor, and the attachment points can fail during a crash, allowing the seat to shift. There is also a lighting concern on trucks equipped with snow plow lamp preparation kits: the snow plow headlights can be switched on independently of the marker and tail lamps, leaving the sides and rear of the truck unlit and reducing its visibility to other drivers.
