The 2017 Volvo VHD has 3 recalls, the most serious being front wheel hubs that can fail under load and allow the entire front hub assembly to separate from the axle.

The front hub separation risk affects trucks built during a specific window in early-to-mid 2016, where the hubs installed cannot handle the rated weight of the front axle. When those hubs are stressed, the bearings and surrounding components can break down prematurely and the assembly can detach entirely while the truck is moving. On the lighting side, trucks equipped with snow plow lamp preparation kits can have their snow plow headlights switched on independently of the marker and tail lamps, meaning the truck's sides and rear stay dark while the front is lit. The driver may not realize other lights are off, and the high beam indicator will not illuminate to provide any hint that high beams are active. There is also a label concern: the certification label on certain trucks may list an incorrect gross axle weight rating for the pusher or tag axle, which could lead an operator to load the axle beyond its true capacity without realizing it.
