The 2015 Volvo VHD has 5 recalls, the most serious being a front ball joint that can corrode and wear to the point of complete steering failure, and a transmission feature that can leave the drivetrain disengaged and extend stopping distances.
On the ball joint issue, water and contaminants can get past compromised seals and cause internal corrosion that gradually destroys the joint. The Eco-Roll transmission concern affects trucks equipped with that option, where the drivetrain may not re-engage after the feature activates, reducing braking effectiveness. Two lighting recalls cover separate problems: certain trucks may have headlights that do not meet minimum brightness requirements and leave the road poorly lit, while trucks fitted with snow plow lamp preparation kits can run the plow headlights without the marker and tail lamps turning on, making the truck hard for other drivers to see. There is also a label recall where the posted axle weight rating for pusher or tag axles may be incorrect, which can lead an operator to overload the truck without realizing it.
