The 2014 Volvo VHD has 3 recalls, the most serious being a front ball joint that can corrode and wear to the point of complete steering loss while driving.
The ball joint seals on certain trucks can allow water and road contamination inside, and over time the joint can fail entirely. There is also a drivetrain concern on trucks equipped with the Eco-Roll feature, where the transmission may not re-engage after coasting in neutral, leaving the vehicle with reduced engine braking and a longer stopping distance than the driver would expect. On the lighting side, trucks fitted with snow plow lamp kits can have their plow headlights switched on independently of the marker and tail lamps, meaning other drivers may not see the truck's full outline, and the high beam indicator inside the cab will not light up when the plow high beams are active.
