The 2015 Volvo VNM has 4 recalls, the most serious including two fire risks and two brake failure concerns that can cause loss of vehicle control.
On the fire side, the trailer hand brake handle can stick in the on position due to the trim panel blocking its return, causing the trailer's service brakes to drag, overheat the wheel end, and potentially start a fire or blow a tire. There is also a risk that excessive crankcase pressure can push an engine vent tube loose, allowing hot oil to contact engine surfaces and ignite. On the braking side, disc brake caliper mounting bolts may not have been tightened to the correct torque, which can allow the caliper to break free from its backing plate, cutting braking force to that wheel and pulling the truck sharply to one side. Separately, incorrect software controlling the air dryer can allow oil and water to contaminate the air brake system, reducing overall braking performance.
