The 2017 Volvo VNM has 4 recalls, the most serious being a missing roll pin on the steering shaft that can cause the shaft to disconnect entirely, resulting in complete loss of steering control.
The front wheel hubs are also a concern: certain trucks were built with hubs that cannot support the full weight rating of the front axle, and under load the hub assembly, bearings, and related components can fail and separate from the axle. On the engine side, the engine control module can develop an internal short circuit that blows a fuse in its power supply, causing the engine to stall without warning and preventing a restart. The brakes round out the list: incorrect software controlling the air dryer can allow oil and water to contaminate the air brake system, reducing braking performance.
