2024 Volvo Vnre ()

The 2024 Volvo VNRE has 3 recalls, the most serious being two separate high-voltage battery defects that can each cause an internal short circuit and raise the risk of a fire.

Both battery issues stem from hardware problems inside the high-voltage battery pack. In one case, threaded fasteners inside the battery can break and create a short circuit. In the other, loose hardware can contact internal battery cells and produce the same result. Though the specific hardware involved differs, both defects carry the same potential consequence: an electrical fire in the battery system. There is also a software and electronics concern affecting trucks equipped with a Bendix EC80 electronic control unit. Electrical interference can cause that unit to misprocess commands or stop functioning entirely, which can disable or reduce the effectiveness of several safety systems including anti-lock brakes, automatic traction control, electronic stability control, adaptive cruise control, and the collision mitigation system. Losing any one of those systems on a commercial truck raises meaningful safety concerns, particularly in heavy traffic or emergency braking situations.
