The 2023 Volvo VNRE has 6 recalls, all centered on fire and safety system risks: multiple defects in the high-voltage battery and cabin heating circuit can cause electrical shorts or overheating that raise the risk of fire.
Three of the fire-related recalls trace back to the high-voltage battery pack. A loose coolant line inside the battery may not be fully seated, allowing coolant to escape and trigger a short circuit. Separately, threaded inserts inside the battery can break if over-tightened, also causing a short, and loose hardware inside the battery cells can short the cells directly. The cabin heating system adds two more fire risks: power cables connecting to the windscreen heater relay may have a loose connection, and the cabin heater relay itself can fail, either way causing the relay or coolant heater to overheat. On the safety systems side, a software issue affecting the Bendix electronic control unit can cause it to misprocess commands or stop responding entirely, which can reduce or disable anti-lock brakes, traction control, electronic stability control, adaptive cruise, and the collision mitigation system.
