The 2008 Volvo XC70 has 7 recalls, the most serious involving side curtain and side impact airbags that can deploy late in a crash, reducing protection for occupants.
The airbag issue stems from software in the restraint system control module and has been addressed across multiple filings, though if prior repairs were not completed the risk remains. There is also a front seatbelt recall where the pretensioner or belt assembly may not properly restrain an occupant in a crash. On the mechanical side, the engine cooling fan can stop working due to a software error in the fan control module, which can cause the engine to overheat and break down, with reduced air conditioning performance as an early warning sign. The remaining recalls involve the tire and wheel information label on the rear driver's side door pillar, which was printed without the required wheel rim size, making it harder to confirm that the correct tires and rims are fitted to the vehicle.
