The 1998 Yamaha YZF1000R has 4 recalls, the most serious involving three separate crash risks: front brake pads that can detach from their backing plates and cause brake failure, a clutch component that can break and lock the rear wheel, and a coolant hose that can come free and spray steam into the rider's field of view or coat the rear tire in coolant. The fourth recall involves the side stand switch, which can lose its mounting screws due to heat and vibration. If the screws fall out, the switch stops working and the motorcycle can be ridden with the side stand down. In a turn, the stand can contact the ground and cause the rider to lose control.
