On certain Civic, CSX and CSX Type S vehicles, an ABS wheel speed sensor O-ring seal may allow water to enter the rear wheel bearing and eventually cause damage to the bearing, especially in areas where use of road salt is prevalent. In time, the wheel bearing could become loose, which could cause the bearing to overheat. This could cause a wheel to separate from the vehicle, potentially resulting in a vehicle crash with injury or death.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will inspect and, if required, replace ABS sensor O-ring seals and rear wheel bearings.
On certain Audi A6 Avant and Q7, if one of the automatic rear lid struts has a total loss of pressure, the resultant slow movement of the rear lid is interpreted by the software as an intended manual close, and the motor clutch releases to close the rear lid immediately. This can result in an unintended rapid closing of the rear lid with a risk of personal injury.
On certain vehicles, the No. 4 engine mount (left side) bolt may loosen as a result of repeated sudden/rapid acceleration. The engine mount bolt may pull out or break, allowing the transmission to be out of position. In extreme cases, the driveshaft may become detached, causing the vehicle to lose propulsion and therefore increasing the risk of a crash.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will replace the No. 4 engine mount bolt. In addition, the No. 4 engine mount rubber and bracket will be inspected and replaced, if necessary.
On certain vehicles, the Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM) was programmed with software that may allow the engine to stall under certain operating conditions. This could cause a crash without warning.
Certain vehicles may have a small plastic tab located on the windshield washer fluid reservoir that may chafe against the underhood fuel supply line. If this happens, the chaffing could cause a fuel leak over time. Fuel leakage, in the presence of an ignition source, may result in a fire.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the underhood fuel supply line. As a preventative measure, dealers will also remove the plastic tab from the windshield washer fluid reservoir.
Certain vehicles fail to conform to CMVSS 212 - Windshield Mounting. The windshield, liftgate glass and side stationary glass may not be properly secured to the vehicle body due to incorrect primer used during glass installation process. As a result, the windshield may not be retained during a frontal crash or rollover.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will replace the windshield, liftgate glass and side stationary glass.
On certain motorcycles, the chain slider guard mounting bolts may become loose and fall out. If this were to occur, the chain slider guard could become caught in the drive chain and cause a crash with injury or death.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will apply thread-locking compound and torque the mounting bolts to specs.
On certain trucks, the rear drive axle housing was manufactured with steel below the specified thickness, which could result in fatigue failure over time. If failure occurs, the outboard end of the housing could eventually separate, allowing the hub, axle shaft, and/or wheel and brake assembly to separate from the vehicle. This could cause a vehicle crash with injury or death.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will inspect and, if required, replace the axle assembly.
On certain vehicles, the Bowden cable, which connects the door handle to the door latch, may have been incorrectly adjusted during vehicle assembly. This adjustment may increase the possibility of the driver door becoming unlatched in the event of a side impact collision, which could cause an unbelted driver to be ejected, increasing the risk of injuries or death.
On certain motorcycles, the battery case may not retain the battery as intended. The case could suffer heat deformation, allowing the battery to become unstable.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will install a bracket kit to reinforce the battery case.
On certain vehicles, heat generated by the engine causes repeated bending deformation of the polypropylene cooling fan and its retaining ring, which stresses the polypropylene, initiating cracking of the blades. The centrifugal forces generated by the rotation of the blades can cause the cracks to propagate until complete separation occurs. Separation of the fan blade(s) can create a risk of personal injury.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will replace the engine cooling fan blade assembly.
On certain motorcycles, a weld between the side stand and the frame bottom section was not positioned properly, and as a consequence, the load-bearing capability of the side stand has been compromised. As a result, under load, the side stand could fail. If this occurred, the motorcycle could fall to the ground and injure a person sitting on the motorcycle or a bystander.
On certain vehicles, the rear quarter glass attaching fasteners may pull through their mounts and allow the glass to separate from the vehicle. If the glass separates while driving, it could strike another vehicle and cause a crash.
On certain motorcycles equipped with a windshield, the throttle cables can kink at the guide bracket located at the steering head when the handlebar is turned all the way to the left. In this position, a kinked cable can cause a heavy throttle feeling. If the rider turns the handlebar to the full left lock during a slow-speed maneuver, this heavy throttle feeling could result in reduced vehicle control, which could cause a crash resulting in injury or death.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will replace the guide bracket with an updated version.
On certain 7500 and 8500 series trucks, the rear drive axle housing was manufactured with steel below the specified thickness, which could result in fatigue failure over time.
On certain trucks, the axle housing may have been manufactured with steel that was out of specification (9.5mm thick instead of 11mm thick), which could result in a fatigue failure over time. If failure occurs, the axle may lock-up or the end of the axle could come off, which may result in a vehicle crash with injury or death.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will inspect and, if required, replace the axles.
On certain motorcycles, the coolant hose connecting the horizontal cylinder head to the thermostat may develop a leak. Hot coolant spayed onto the rider's leg could cause scalding injuries. Furthermore, if coolant is sprayed onto the rear tire, it would create the risk of a crash causing injuries or death.
On certain vehicles, the front door latch cable may become partially unseated from the interior release handle housing, causing the latch to become stuck in the open position.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will install a secondary feature to both front doors to prevent the door latch cable ferrule from becoming unseated.
