On certain vehicles, housing bolts for the variable camshaft timing system could break, allowing camshaft timing to deviate. If this occurs, the engine would revert to "limp home mode", limiting available engine power. In rare instances the engine could stall, increasing the risk of a collision causing injury and/or damage to property.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will replace housing bolts that break and perform associated repairs for 10 years/unlimited mileage from the vehicle's in-service date.
On certain motorcycles, the crankcase may have been machined incorrectly which could cause insufficient crankshaft clearance and lead to rear wheel lockup due to the engine seizing. This could increase the risk of a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will inspect crankshaft endplay and install a spacer if necessary.
On certain vehicles, housing bolts for the variable camshaft timing system could break, allowing camshaft timing to deviate. If this occurs, the engine would revert to "limp home mode", limiting available engine power. This could increase the risk of a collision causing injury and/or damage to property.
On certain vehicles, a connection in the charge air cooler piping could separate under high engine load conditions, such as during vehicle acceleration. This would cause an immediate loss of power and could result in engine stalling, increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or property damage.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will inspect the hose connection clamp and reposition and/or tighten as necessary.
On certain motorcycles, the rocker arm shaft retaining bolt could loosen, causing an oil leak. If the bolt was to separate completely, the engine could stall or lose power. This could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property.
Safety Risk

Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing North America (Toyota) is recalling certain model year 2013-2014 Tacoma vehicles manufactured July 1, 2013, through October 11, 2013. The engines of the affected vehicles contain valve springs that may break over time.
Safety Risk
If the valve springs break, the engine could fail and stall while the vehicle is being driven, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy
Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will replace the valve springs, free of charge. The recall began on November 27, 2013. Owners may contact Toyota at 1-800-331-4331.
On certain vehicles equipped with four-cylinder engines, a manufacturing defect could cause the engine valve springs to break, potentially causing abnormal noise, rough engine performance, and in some cases, a sudden loss of motive power while driving. This could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property.
Chrysler Group LLC (Chrysler) is recalling certain model year 2013 Dodge Avenger and Chrysler 200, and model year 2014 Jeep Compass and Patriot vehicles equipped with 2.4L engines. Due to abrasive debris in the balance shaft bearings, these engines may have a loss of engine oil pressure, possibly resulting in an engine stall or engine failure.
Safety Risk
If the engine stalls while driving it may increase the risk of a crash.
Remedy
Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will replace the engine balance shaft module, free of charge. The recall began on December 24, 2013. Owners may contact Chrysler at 1-800-247-9753. Chrysler's recall campaign number is N52.
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2011-2012 F-350/450/550 Ambulance Package vehicles manufactured February 22, 2010, through October 19, 2012 and equipped with a 6.7L diesel engine. Due to an exhaust sensor problem, the vehicles may experience loss of power followed by an engine stall.
Safety Risk
An unexpected engine stall increases the risk of a crash. Additionally, if this were to occur when the ambulance is transporting a patient, there is an increased risk of injury to the patient.
Remedy
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the exhaust gas temperature sensor, free of charge. The recall began on November 25, 2013. Owners may contact Ford Motor Company Customer Relationship Center at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's recall campaign number is 13S10.
Certain ambulance package vehicles with 6.7L diesel engines may experience a "stop safety now" warning message and 5 audible chimes while the vehicles gradually loses power, eventually resulting in the engine stalling when speed falls below 5 km/h. If this were to occur while the ambulance is transporting a patient, engine shutdown with no ability to restart could interfere with patient care and increase the risk of injury to the patient.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will replace the exhaust gas temperature (EGT) sensor located downstream of the diesel particulate filter (DPF).
BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain model year 2012 K1600 GT and K1600 GTL motorcycles. In certain riding conditions, an incorrect throttle valve control signal may be received by the engine control unit, limiting the engine speed.
