Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will replace both front lower ball joints and install ball joint boot heat shields on all 2002 and early 2003 model year vehicles. On later 2003 model year vehicles, the dealer will first inspect to determine if ball joint replacement is required. Any ball joints that do not pass the inspection will be replaced. ON CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES, A FRONT WHEEL BEARING AND HUB ASSEMBLY MAY FRACTURE DUE TO IMPROPER HEAT TREATMENT.
Safety Risk
IF A HUB FRACTURES, IT MAY POTENTIALLY DETACH FROM THE WHEEL KNUCKLE, RESULTING IN THE WHEEL BEING RETAINED ONLY BY THE BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY. AS A RESULT, THE WHEEL MAY SEPARATE FROM THE VEHICLE POTENTIALLY RESULTING IN A CRASH.
Remedy
DEALERS WILL INSPECT BOTH FRONT WHEEL BEARING AND HUB ASSEMBLIES AND REPLACE THEM FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON JUNE 22, 2007. OWNERS MAY CONTACT FORD AT 1-800-392-3673.

ON CERTAIN SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES AND PICKUP TRUCKS EQUIPPED WITH FOUR-WHEEL DRIVE (4X4), IF MOISTURE LEAKS INTO THE FRONT SUSPENSION UPPER BALL JOINT, EVACUATION OF THE LUBRICANT AND CORROSION OF THE JOINT MAY CAUSE THE JOINT TO WEAR OVER AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME. THIS COULD CAUSE A CLUNKING NOISE IN THE FRONT SUSPENSION, WHICH MAY NOT ALWAYS BE HEARD BY THE VEHICLE OCCUPANTS.
Safety Risk
EXCESSIVE WEAR IN THE UPPER BALL JOINT MAY ALLOW IT TO SEPARATE, WHICH COULD RESULT IN LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE.
Remedy
DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE FRONT SUSPENSION UPPER BALL JOINTS. THIS SAFETY IMPROVEMENT CAMPAIGN BEGAN ON DECEMBER 21, 2004. OWNERS CAN CONTACT DAIMLERCHRYSLER AT 1-800-853-1403.

On certain vehicles, the automated valve stems may have been over inserted into the wheels during installation. This could tear the rubber bulb at the base of the valve stem and result in loss of air. If air pressure is not maintained, the tire may operate at extremely low inflation pressures. Since commercial truck tires have steel cords in the sidewall, operation at extremely low pressures could result in sidewall zipper failures either during vehicle operation or during inflation of the tire. A potential for personal injury exists if safety standards are not followed while inflating and zipper failure occurs.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Valve stems will be inspected for leakage and if leakage is found, both valve stem and tire will be replaced.
