THE REAR CONTROL ARM BRACKET ATTACHING BOLTS USED ON CERTAIN OF THESE VEHICLES MAY FRACTURE. FAILURE OF ALL FOUR BOLTS ON ONE SIDE CAN RESULT IN THE CONTROL ARM DROPPING ENOUGH TO CUT THE REAR BRAKE HOSE. SUCH A CUT WOULD RESULT IN FLUID LOSS AND PARTIAL LOSS OF BRAKING ACTION. THIS WOULD CAUSE INCREASED STOPPING DISTANCES AND SHOULD A FAILURE OCCUR WHILE TRHE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION AT A TIME WHEN MINIMAL STOPPING DISTANCES ARE REQUIRED, A VEHICLE CRASH COULD RESULT.
THE FUEL HOSE AT THE TRANSFER PUMP,LOCATED INSIDE THE FUEL TANK, CAN LOOSEN AND BECOME DISCONNECTED, CAUSING INTERUPTION OF THE FUEL SUPPLY TO THE ENGINE. THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT FUEL RESERVOIR ON THESE VEHICLES MAY BE SUBJECT TO LEAKAGE AT THE RESERVOIR SEAM AND ITS INLET HOSE CONNECTION. FUEL LEAKAGE WOULD PROVIDE THE POTENTIAL FOR AN UNDERHOOD FIRE.
IF THE SECONDARY HOOD LATCH LEVER IS MISTAKENLY OPERATED IN THE INCORRECT DIRECTION, THERE IS A POSSIBILITY OF DAMAGE TO THE HOOD LATCH ASSEMBLY EVENTUALLY RESULTING IN SEPARATION OF THE SECONDARY HOOD LATCH. UNDER THIS CONDITION, IF THE PRIMARY LATCH IS NOT FULLY ENGAGED, OR IS RELEASED WHILE DRIVING, THE HOOD MAY OPEN, OBSTRUCTING FRONTAL VISION AND A VEHICLE CRASH COULD OCCUR.
THE BOLTS WHICH ATTACH THE BRAKE SPIDERS TO THE FLANGES OF THE DRIVE AXLE MAY BREAK IN SERVICE. FAILURE OF THESE BOLTS COULD POSSIBLY LEAD TO A LOSS OF BRAKING EFFICIENCY.
THESE VEHICLES MAY HAVE AN E-CELL TIMER UNIT INTERFERING WITH THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL ASSEMBLY AND POSSIBLY PREVENTING THE ENGINE FROM RETURNING TO IDLE WHEN THE DRIVER HAS REMOVED HIS FOOT FROM THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. LOSS OF ACCELERATOR CONTROL COULD RESULT IN VEHICLE CRASH WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING.
THESE VEHICLES MAY HAVE AN IMPROPERLY TIGHTENED INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT UPPER PINCH BOLT. THIS CONDITION COULD POSSIBLE RESULT IN LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL.
THE THROTTLE LINKAGE RETAINING CLIP MAY INTERFERE WITH THE THROTTLE BODY CASTING DURING NORMAL ROTATION OF THE THROTTLE LEVER. THIS COULD ALLOW THE ACCELERATOR LINKAGE TO BIND AND PREVENT THE THROTTLE FROM CLOSING. iF THIS WERE TO OCCUR, VEHICLE SPEED WOULD REMAIN CONSTANT EVEN THOUGH THE DRIVER HAS REMOVED HIS FOOT FROM THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. LOSS OF ACCELERATOR CONTROL COULD RESULT IN A VEHICLE CRASH WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING.
THE ALTERNATOR ROTOR MAGNET MAY CONTACT THE STATOR CAUSING IT TO SHEAR ITS MOUNMTING BOLTS AND RENDER THE ALTERNATOR INOPERATIVE. THESE MOUNTING BOLTS ALSO LIMIT THE TRAVEL OF CERTAIN TRANSMISSION GEARS. UNDER CERTAIN CONDITIONS THIS WOULD ALLOW IMPROPER TRANSMISSION GEAR ENGAGEMENT WHICH WOULD CAUSE THE VEHICLE DRIVE TRAIN AND REAR WHEEL TO LOCK UP AND RESULT IN ACCIDENT.
VEHICLES MAY HAVE INADEQUATE CLEARANCE BETWEEN THE RIGHT FRONT BRAKE TUBES AND A BRACKET MOUNTED TO THE ENGINE. UNDER CERTAIN CONDITIONS THE BRACKET COULD CONTACT THE METAL BRAKE TUBE AND RESULT IN ABRASION OF THE TUBE WHICH COULD CAUSE A LOSS OF BRAKE FLUID AND A PARTIAL BRAKE LOSS. THIS WOULD RESULT IN INCREASED STOPPING DISTANCES.
THE BRAKE PROPORTIONER VALVES MAY BREAK AND SEPARATE FROM THE MASTER CYLINDER DURING BRAKING. THIS WILL RESULT IN A LOSS OF BRAKE FLUID AND A PARTIAL LOSS OF BRAKING ACTION
VEHICLES WERE ASSEMBLED WITH INADEQUATE CLAMP LOAD ON THE TIE ROD ADJUSTER. THIS WOULD ALLOW THE TIE ROD TO LOOSEN AND SEPARATE FROM THE TIE ROD ADJUSTER. TIE ROD SEPARATION COULD CAUSE A LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL WHICH COULD RESULT IN A VEHICLE CRASH WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING.
CARBURETOR THROTTLE SHAFTS MAY BE SUSCEPTIBLE TO DIRT CONTAMINATION AND WEAR OF THE BEARING COATINGS. THIS COULD CAUSE THE SECONDARY THROTTLE PLATES TO REMAIN PARTIALLY OPEN AFTER THE DRIVER HAS RELEASED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THIS THIS WERE TO OCCUR, ENGINE SPEED WOULD NOT RETURN TO IDLE POTENTIALLY AFFECTING VEHICLE CONTROL AND STOPPING DISTANCES.
THESE VEHICLES ARE EQUIPPED WITH AN EMISSION SYSTEM VALVE IN THE VACUUM LINE BETWEEN THE FUEL VAPOUR CANISTER AND THE CARBURETOR WHICH MAY ALLOW A FUEL-LOADED CANISTER TO SURGE AND CAUSE AN OVERRICH MIXTURE TO BE DRAWN INTO THE INTAKE MANIFOLD. AN OVERRICH MIXTURE COULD CAUSE LOSS OF ENGINE POWER DURING ENGINE DECELERATION OPERATIONS AND COULD ADVERSELY AFFECT VEHICLE CONTROL.
THE RUBBER HOSE WHICH CONNECTS THE FUEL PUMP OUTLET TO THE CARBURETOR FUEL SUPPLY LINE MAY SEPARATE. THIS WOULD RESULT IN A FUEL LEAK AND CREATE THE POTENTIAL FOR AN UNDERHOOD FIRE. 1983 RANGER TRUCKS WITH 2,0L AND 2.3L ENGINES ARE AFFECTED.
DUE TO A FAULTY OIL PRESSURE SENDER GAUGE, OIL COULD LEAK FROM THE ENGINE CREATING THE POSSIBILITY OF ENGINE SEIZURE WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING WHICH COULD RESULT IN LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL.
