These four recalls all describe the same two underlying defects affecting the front passenger airbag. Grouping them accordingly.
The 2006 Audi A8 has 4 recalls, all centered on the front passenger airbag failing to deploy in a crash, leaving the front passenger with significantly less protection in a frontal collision.
Two distinct conditions can cause this. A wiring harness problem, involving either an improperly routed ground in the passenger-side airbag and seat heater harness or a broader wiring condition, can create signal interference that deactivates the passenger airbag even when it should remain active. Separately, a weak or low battery can cause the airbag control unit to register a false fault code, which also shuts off the passenger airbag. In both cases, the airbag warning light and the "passenger airbag off" indicator on the instrument panel will illuminate, giving the driver a visible cue that the system is not functioning normally.
