The 2009 Audi Q5 has 7 recalls, the most serious involving the driver's frontal airbag inflator, which can rupture or explode in a crash and send metal fragments into the cabin.
Two separate airbag inflator recalls cover this same risk, and prior repair attempts using butyl tape on the fuel system did not fully resolve a related concern: the fuel pump flange can crack and leak fuel, raising the risk of a fire if an ignition source is nearby. On the airbag electronics side, the airbag control unit can corrode and fail, preventing airbags from deploying in a crash at all. There is also a structural trim concern: the A-pillar trim cover clips may not hold securely, allowing the trim panel to come loose when the side curtain airbags deploy and strike front seat occupants.
