The airbag defect affects the passenger-side inflator, which can rupture rather than inflate properly when triggered. Instead of cushioning a passenger, the inflator can burst and propel sharp metal pieces toward anyone in the front seat, with the potential for serious injury or death. The fuel tank issue is specific to Quattro models: in a front crash, a heat shield bracket mounted near the tank can puncture or damage it, allowing fuel to escape. A leaking fuel tank near hot engine and exhaust components creates a meaningful fire risk following a collision. Prior repair attempts for the fuel tank did not fully resolve the issue, which is why it appears across more than one filing. Owners of Quattro-configured trims should confirm whether both fuel tank recalls have been addressed under their VIN.
