The 2008 BMW 5 Series has two recalls, the most serious being a positive battery cable connector that can loosen, overheat, and start a fire even while the car is parked and unattended. Owners are advised to park outside until the repair is made. The second recall involves the rear lamp cluster, where one or more functions including the brake lights, turn signals, taillights, or reverse light can stop working. When any of these lights fail, other drivers may not see the car clearly or know when it is stopping or turning, raising the risk of a collision.
